America Georgine Ferrera was born on 18th April, 1984
in Los Angeles, California. Her parents had emigrated from Honduras
in the mid-1970s.America started acting in school plays at the
age of eight. She made her first TV movie for The Disney Channel aged
18. That same year, 2002, she made her feature film debut in Real Women Have Curves.
In 2002 she took the part of Betty Suarez, in the smash hit TV show Ugly Betty,
a remake of the Colombian hit telenovela Betty La Fea. For this part
she won the 2007 Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress.
